  • Tasting Notes

The 2020 Azienda Uggiano Prestige Toscano Sangiovese Syrah Red Blend IGT is a beautifully balanced Italian red wine that showcases the best of Tuscany’s winemaking tradition. With a deep ruby color and vibrant violet reflections, this Tuscan red blend is as inviting as it is flavorful.

From the first pour, aromas of ripe red berries, cinnamon spice, and sweet licorice fill the glass, creating an enticing bouquet. On the palate, juicy Sangiovese fruit meets the richness of Syrah, offering a smooth, well-rounded sip. Soft tannins and a lingering finish make this easy-drinking red wine perfect for any occasion.

Whether you're pairing it with pasta, roasted meats, or a charcuterie board, this versatile red wine elevates every meal. Ideal for wine lovers who enjoy Italian wines with depth and character, the Uggiano Prestige Toscana Red Blend is a great choice for both casual sipping and special dinners.

  • Story

Azienda Uggiano’s story began in the early 1970s at the historic Castle of Montespertoli, when a group of wine enthusiasts from Bergamo set out to create exceptional Tuscan wines. With guidance from French-trained enologist Dr. Giuseppe Losapio, the winery quickly became known for crafting high-quality wines that balanced traditional techniques with innovative approaches.

In 1976, Azienda Uggiano moved to the scenic area of San Vincenzo a Torri, near the Pesa River. This marked a new chapter, allowing the winery to further refine its winemaking style. Focused on Sangiovese-based blends and Tuscan red wines, Uggiano's wines became a true expression of the region’s terroir, offering balance, elegance, and depth.

By 2015, a significant change occurred when Daniele Prosperi, Giacomo Fossati, and Fabio Martelli, three long-time employees, took over the management of Azienda Uggiano. With extensive experience in viticulture, sales, and winery operations, they continued to build on the winery's legacy while embracing sustainable and modern winemaking practices.

Today, Azienda Uggiano owns vineyards across the picturesque regions of Montespertoli, Montelupo Fiorentino, and San Casciano in Val di Pesa, producing wines that reflect the character and beauty of Tuscany. The winery’s commitment to sustainability is evident through its eco-friendly practices, such as modernizing its bottling facilities to reduce carbon emissions and incorporating environmentally conscious farming techniques.

With a focus on quality winemaking and sustainability, Azienda Uggiano continues to create wines that deliver an authentic taste of Tuscany. Whether you're enjoying a Chianti, a Sangiovese Syrah red blend, or any of their carefully crafted wines, Uggiano offers a genuine connection to the land and the winemaking tradition of Tuscany. Azienda Uggiano carefully selects grapes from the Tuscan vineyards - Montespertoli, Montelupo Fiorentino, San Casciano in Val di Pesa, ensuring that each bottle reflects the region’s unique terroir. The winery continues to implement sustainable winemaking practices, modernizing its facilities to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining traditional techniques that honor Tuscany’s rich winemaking heritage.

  • Somm Notes

    A Modern, Approachable Super Tuscan
Super Tuscans break from tradition by blending Sangiovese with non-native grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Syrah, creating bold, expressive wines labeled under the IGT Toscana classification. The 2020 Azienda Uggiano Prestige Toscana follows this innovative approach, combining Sangiovese’s bright acidity with Syrah’s rich fruit and spice. Unlike some high-end, long-aging Super Tuscans, this wine is softer, rounder, and ready to enjoy now, making it an accessible introduction to the category.

    How Syrah Transforms Sangiovese
Sangiovese is known for its red cherry, earthy notes, and vibrant acidity, but when blended with Syrah, it gains deeper blackberry and plum flavors, silky tannins, and a touch of black pepper spice. The result is a fuller-bodied, smoother wine that still maintains its Tuscan roots but with an added layer of richness and warmth. This combination makes it more approachable for those who find pure Sangiovese too tart or lean.

    Perfect Food Pairings
This balanced blend shines with classic Italian dishes like pasta Bolognese, margherita pizza, and osso buco, where Sangiovese’s acidity cuts through rich tomato sauces. The Syrah influence makes it a great match for grilled steak, roast lamb, or smoky barbecue pork, enhancing the dish’s depth and spice. Even vegetarians can enjoy it with mushroom risotto, grilled eggplant, or aged cheeses like Pecorino. Whether for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion, this wine brings out the best in every bite.

  • Region

Azienda Uggiano sources its grapes from some of Tuscany’s most renowned wine-growing areas: Montespertoli, Montelupo Fiorentino, and San Casciano in Val di Pesa. These regions, located in the heart of Chianti and Tuscany, provide the perfect environment for producing high-quality Sangiovese-based wines and distinctive Tuscan red blends like the 2020 Prestige Toscana Sangiovese Syrah.

Montespertoli: The Heart of Chianti Production
Known as the largest producer of Chianti DOCG, Montespertoli has a long tradition of viticulture. The rolling hills and sun-drenched vineyards create ideal conditions for growing Sangiovese, the backbone of many of Uggiano’s wines. The region is also at the forefront of sustainable and organic viticulture, with winemakers dedicated to preserving the land while enhancing the quality of their wines.

Montelupo Fiorentino: A Terroir of Tradition
Adjacent to Montespertoli, Montelupo Fiorentino shares similar vineyard characteristics, with a mix of clay and limestone soils that contribute to the structure and depth of Uggiano’s wines. The region’s favorable climate, with warm summers and mild winters, allows for balanced ripening of both Sangiovese and Syrah, resulting in wines with rich fruit flavors and elegant tannins.

San Casciano in Val di Pesa: Chianti Classico Excellence
Located within the prestigious Chianti Classico region, San Casciano in Val di Pesa is home to vineyards that sit at elevations of 250 to 300 meters, benefiting from clay-rich Galestro and Alberese soils. This terroir fosters the production of high-quality Sangiovese, known for its bright acidity, complex flavors, and aging potential. Azienda Uggiano’s commitment to expressing the character of this region is evident in its balanced and expressive Tuscany red wines.
