Tasting Notes
The bright salmon hue leads to aromas of fresh sea breeze intertwined with the alluring aroma of wild fruits, hints of smoke, and a dash of spice. It transports you to the rugged coastline, where the ocean meets the vineyard.
This Txakolina Rosado is crisp and zippy with red fruit aromas - ripe cherry, strawberries, and citrus. The refreshing acidity paired with the slight effervescence, typical of the Txakolina wines, make this the perfect warm sunny day wine - a perfect patio sipper.

Story
Step back in time to 1989, the birth year not only of Bodegas Zudugarai but also of the prestigious DO of Getaria Txakolina. Founded by the Errasti family, who boast over four decades of experience cultivating grapes and crafting wines from the indigenous Hondarrabi Zuri and Hondarrabi Beltza varieties, Bodegas Zudugarai represents a legacy of passion and dedication spanning three generations. With a steadfast commitment to quality and authenticity, the family maintains direct control over every aspect of the winemaking process, from vineyard management and grape selection to the integration of modern technology in the cellar. This harmonious blend of tradition and innovation results in wines that embody the essence of the Basque Coast – vibrant, expressive, and utterly unique.
The history of Bodegas Zudugarai is intertwined with the rich maritime heritage of the Basque Country. During the 15th and 16th centuries, txakoli winemaking flourished, its vineyards strategically oriented towards the sea, echoing the deep connection between the land and the ocean. Despite facing challenges such as the devastating phylloxera and mildew outbreaks in the late 19th century, the Errasti family persevered, laying the groundwork for the revitalization of the txakoli industry in the 20th century. Through unwavering dedication and a pioneering spirit, Bodegas Zudugarai emerged as a beacon of innovation, spearheading the resurgence of traditional winemaking practices and playing a pivotal role in the establishment of the Gipuzkoan Txakoli Denomination of Origin. Today, as guardians of a centuries-old legacy, Bodegas Zudugarai continues to uphold its commitment to crafting exceptional wines that reflect the terroir, history, and soul of the Basque Coast.

Somm Notes
Hondarrabi Beltza is a rare gem among grape varieties, primarily cultivated in the Basque region of Spain, where it reigns as the sole dark-skinned grape variety. Believed to trace its lineage back to Cabernet Franc, this illustrious grape is renowned for its pivotal role in crafting Txakoli wines, particularly in the red and rosé styles. The resulting wines boast a distinctive profile characterized by a vibrant acidity, making them a refreshing choice best enjoyed in their youthful prime.
In the world of Txakoli, Hondarrabi Beltza stands out for its ability to impart a lively, energetic character to the wines it produces. With its prominent acidity level, these wines offer a burst of freshness reminiscent of the sea breeze that sweeps across the Gipuzkoan Coast. To preserve this invigorating quality, some wines are bottled with a touch of carbon dioxide, enhancing their natural sparkle and allure.
While Hondarrabi Beltza production remains relatively small compared to its white counterpart, Hondarrabi Zuri, its impact is undeniable. With its textured palate and nuanced flavors of ripe cherry, wild fruits, and subtle spices, wines crafted from Hondarrabi Beltza offer a sensory journey like no other. Whether paired with paprika-spiced sausage or spiced-beef empanada, these wines elevate any dining experience with their vibrant personality and distinct terroir expression.
The history of the Getariako Txakolina region is a tale of resilience and revival, culminating in its designation as a Designation of Origin in 1989. Since ancient times, wine and vineyards have been revered in the region, with early protections dating back to 1397. During the 16th and 17th centuries, vineyards flourished, supported by local guilds and a spirit of protectionism aimed at safeguarding against taxation on imported wines.
However, the 19th century brought about a series of challenges, including the repeal of protective laws, the influx of foreign wines, and devastating outbreaks of disease. Despite these setbacks, the vineyards of Getariako Txakolina persisted, albeit on a smaller scale, with only a fraction of the land under cultivation by the 1980s. Yet, fueled by determination and a shared vision, a revitalization effort ensued, leading to the official recognition of Getaria Txakoli as a Designation of Origin in 1989. This milestone marked the beginning of a new chapter for the region, one defined by a commitment to quality, tradition, and the preservation of its unique winemaking heritage.
91 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous):
"The 2022 Rosado Antxiola is an absolutely delicious, lightly sparkling Rosé to drink now and over the next year or so. Bright red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, cedar and cinnamon lend presence to this mid-weight offering. The 2022 is all charm. Drink: 2023-2024. (May 2023)"
